Kidnapping has become such an industry in Mexico that no one is immune: Maids are held for $500 in ransom; a 12-year-old Tijuana girl was kidnapped this year by college students trying to raise money for school; people fake their own kidnappings to collect from their own families or businesses.
Something to think about with regard to the current plight in Mexico are the demographics driving their society and economy... VERY similar to what the Muslim world is facing.
Population: 98,552,776 (July 1998 est.)
Age structure: 0-14 years: 36% (male 17,883,007; female 17,193,082) 15-64 years: 60% (male 28,932,074; female 30,511,443) 65 years and over: 4% (male 1,808,581; female 2,224,589) (July 1998 est.)
Demographics DO matter... There can be a true "baby boom" that translates into a booming economy... Or it can "bust" a society with corruption and violence.
