Amadeo: Sprint has been closely aligned with SBC/PAC for the last
few years--Sprint sells its excess service to them very cheaply and
there are other indications that something is going on between SBC
and Sprint.

AT&T has a similar affair going on with BellSouth which has been
rumored to be the real object of Allen's desires; however, Justice
has made it clear that's out.

So I vote for T's looking at GTE as it's #1 next step--I'm almost
positive Allen is drooling over the idea.

GTE, meanwhile, can afford to take its time and go on a lot of very
expensive dates with its suitors at the expense of the suitors; when
GTE decides which one it loves the most, you can be pretty sure it'll
be the right one.
