let's face it: Williams is in a class by himself. and he didn't have the benefit of roids like all of today's idiots. .375 is quite impressive, but i disqualify it due to my suspicion of drug enhancements. in any case, however, .375 ain't .400, and Williams did it like a man: the last day of the season, his average was like .3999 and he would have been rounded up to .400, but he said he didn't want the four on a technicality. even though his manager said he could have the day off. so he played that day and went 2 for 4 (as i recall...reading) and got the real four hundred, unrounded. there is simply no more impressive record in baseball, and all the roids-popping in the world will not change that.
