Ice, of all the advice that gets passed around on SI, your
recent comment is among the most useful and safest I've read.

It also pays to carry a healthy respect for the numerous
critters found in nature. A computer and modem are worthless
when facing a rattlesnake or mountain lion.

I've not been face to face with a mountain lion, but I did
have an encounter with rattler. 'Respect' is the key word.
Some things should just be left alone, backed away from, and
allowed every opportunity to leave if they want. The hardest
part is getting it together mentally to slowly but efficiently
move away. Panic is a trouble catalyst -- just like in the
stock market
