He's talking about being proactive to avert irrational attacks. Maybe so, but what to do? Everybody wants something, they all want things to go their way. The Palestinians want to kick the Jews out of Israel. Saddam wants to take over Kuwait and Iran. Bin Laden wants to take over Saudi Arabia. China wants to take over Taiwan. North Korea wants South Korea. The Taliban wants Afghanistan. Canada wants to dump softwood, New Zealand wants to dump lamb, and everybody wants to dump steel, but nobody wants to buy GM corn, and everybody wants us to sign onto Kyoto. All we have to do is let everybody have exactly what they want and nobody will get hurt.
