I concur on Schmidt's vision

However his weakness is operational experience. He may not be able to execute.

He has made mistakes recently.
(1) He has said he has until next April to fix things when in fact nobody on the street or in the industry believes that. That statement comes across as complacency in a company with a history of "what me worry" while the house is burning down.
(2) He hasn't done any better than Marengi at fixing the problems with marketing and PR.
(3) He hasn't populated the upper ranks with his own people. Novell needs new management and Schmidt hasn't figured that out.

The fact that he has not fired the obviously incompetent head of PR shows he isn't making the necessary executive decisions quickly.

If he keeps this up he will join all of the rest of Novell's past management with his career in ruins.

=============================================
And let me repeat what Joe said:

"The issue is not with Schmidt.
The issue is with JOHN YOUNG, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND THE 'INFLUENCE' that is ever-present.

Why, oh why do you think I and the others tried so hard to oust that BOD?

Unless and until Schmidt can demonstrate that he is, in fact, IN CHARGE without his hands being tied, then it does not matter one iota what he says he will do. THEY ---(YOUNG, BOD, AND THE "INFLUENCE") are running this company into the ground.

Can ANYONE give a counter argument to that? I'd love to hear it at this point."

============================================
That's the truth of the situation.
