Your point is well-taken, but I remain convinced that a flat tax also would be opposed by the rich for the reason I mentioned previously ... once the devil became known in the details.

To put it another way, if you possess wealth of, say, $200 million and through the use of push-the-envelope tax strategies and $300-an-hour tax accountants you pay annual taxes at a rate of 10 percent, why on earth would you favor a flat tax that would call for you to pay taxes at a rate of 5 to 8 percentage points higher?
