>>i'm merely suggesting that if they aren't going to let the americans dictate to them a just solution to the arab-israeli crisis in the middle east, then what are we paying them $3 billion per year for?

The poor Palestinians are just a pawn for the other Arab countries. Israel would be willing to give up land for peace but they believe that by turning down the Camp David deal, the issue was proven that this is not about land. Many/most Arabs believe Israel should not exist. The US believes otherwise.

Most muslims don't care about other muslims. Why wasn't there this much outrage when Saddamm invaded Kuwait or when he gassed his own people or during any of the other Muslim mass deaths of the last few years? Jeez, Arafat declared support for Saddamm's invastion of Kuwait back in the day. The Palestinians are just being used by the Middle East as a wall from Western influences. We are in a culture clash as Islam deals with modernity and pluralism. This thing is really going to get ugly when the oil game ends and these countries are going to have to figure out another way to support their populations. You can't feed your people when hours praying exceeds hours working (if you don't have the oil crutch).

This thing is a mess and its got a long way to go. Out there at some point, the US and Saudi Arabia are going to collide.

Israel represents democracy and modernity and the rest of the Middle East are basically underachieving due to repressive regimes and religious zealots. We could give up on Israel but that would just enable another corrupt, unsustainable regime to occupy the land.
