MBNA, right? My understanding is that they (like most CC companies) pull your credit report periodically to assess whether they should take action on your account - positive or negative. They have the right to do this because you have a credit line with them (note: the inquiry does not show up on the credit report that would be pulled if you were applying for new credit). MBNA tends to extend credit to customers with good repayment histories. They figure that a credit line increase will make you take notice of the account and possibly use their card. I have found that MBNA tends to increase my credit line shortly after I make a large purchase with their card, even though I always repay balances quickly, if not immediately.
