My chief concern is that every person and corporation in the United States pays his or its fair share. That ain't happening now, and the problem doesn't lie with the poor people of this country. If this only can be accomplished by a flat tax with no deductions of any kind, then I could possibly support such.

However, we both know that the present tax system will continue to get more complex, not less complex. (You ought to see how the IRS is expanding in Northern Kentucky.)

Eliminating mortgage deductions, charitable deductions (and private school vouchers too?) would also play hell with the social/religious fabric of America. Half the churches in America would go out of business in two years if we eliminated the charitable deduction, in my humble opinion.

Re: Enron and taxes: I wonder how much Lay and Skilling paid in personal income taxes those five years. I'll bet it was a dime on the dollar at most.
