Bush/Cheney announced that the US would unilaterally invade Iraq and knock off Saddam, period, no matter what -- do you not understand this? You post an article that says that the Israeli Palestinian conflict ruled out Arab backing for an "offensive" against Iraq. What did the US do? It announced a non-negotiable, irrevocable offensive against Iraq. This destroyed what was left of the coalition and left us with no support ANYWHERE in the world outside of GB which is joined at the hip for policy purposes. Was there an alternative? Yes. Disarm or else. There is a coalition which can be built around that policy -- and that is what we are seeing -- but it is not our coalition, it is the UN's and we are left with our stupid policy and no way out. The key players are not the Saudi's -- they will fall into line with the UN. The key players are China, Russia and France -- the UN Security Council. And those three countries would have been very open to "disarm or else". That much I know.
