the only people who say this are people who haven't customized it personally and used it long enough....
been using it for 3 months now totally cusomized. it sucks. task bar on windows is better in my opinion.
i didn't like the hockey puck mice either, but apple had the most successful launch of any computer from any box maker.... EVER .... TWICE.....DESPITE with the hockey puck mouse.....they are using an optical mouse now, actually a very nice one....
Think how many they would have sold with a decent mouse. The laughing stock of the computer world for two years.
and Two button and three button mice have been long researched by apple before MSFT even knew what a Mouse was, let alone a gui, and apple came to the conclusion that one button mice work much much better
possibly for newbies. But I can't think of anyone who would switch back after using a two button mouse. That's why there are contextural menus.
there is a reason why there are so many studies out showing that Mac users are more productive...... Apple has put a lot of research into the user experience,
My point exactly, except make that "put a lot of research a long, long time ago"
Since then not much has changed. Then they fired the GUI group and what we got was an interface with tons of screw ups.
Wintel's environment was designed by engineers with about as much finesse as a Civil engineers sewer layout...... the only things Wintel's get right are after they copy what apple is doing..... and usually they are extremely bad copies.... like the profile 4 from gateway...... or the emachines copy of the imac.....
True but they are doggedly getting better. ANY Mac OS was superior to the original Windows, OSX is possibly slightly superior to Win2000.
but if you want to cripple the creative side of your brain's productivity when using a computer, go buy a two button mouse..... its not that hard.....
I use both a standard pre hocky puck mouse and logitec 3 button scroll wheel mice daily and I've used my friends 933 mouse extensively. The logitec mice are superior, especially in shape and they allow an experienced user to do things faster. One could just use one button on the mouse no differently than the one button Apple mouse. Personally I just use two of the three and sometimes the scroll wheel.
and QT interface? what in the world is wrong with QT?
Weren't you around when this controversy developed? 1) windowshade doesn't work 2) screen area wasted 3) stupid sound controller 4) stupid editing controller, with minute, tiny buttons 5) can only open one movie a time
Great improvements...
to their credit they've fixed some of these problems.
If MSFT gets everything right, then they will finally get everything right, same with any company...... i'm not holding my breath for any company...... let alone MSFT....
Sometimes the tortoise wins the race. They are dogged, you have to give them that.
you don't understand licensing at all, Apple was the biggest and most profitable Box maker WITHOUT LICENSING, until they kicked jobs out,
I think I do understand licensing. If Apple would have licensed their operating system before Windows supplanted Dos, Jobs would never have left and Apple would be a software company with a market cap of .25 Trillion instead of 5.4 billion now. Microsoft would be a name in history like Amiga.
the only thing apple needs is innovation...
I disagree. They need USEFUL innovation. And some common sense.
when they innovate, they make more money
Hockey Puc, Cube...
I agree they must innovate, but any mechanic will tell you "if it ain't broke don't fix it". When designers concentrate on making things look "cool" it's because they don't have the creativity to innovate. Look at Herman Miller chairs, they look funky but they WORK. That "cool GENIE" crap isn't worth a nickle.
Apple is the only profitable box maker
The largest and most profitable box makers are mom and pop shops.
And Microsofts profits DWARF Apple's.
go ahead and match up the time lines with when apple tried "licensing"
By then it was too late. Microsoft had already won in the market that really counts: BUSINESS.
if you want to know how apple would have done since then if they continued licensing instead of innovating, look at CPQ, and you will see that instead of making profits, apple would be losing money by now...
Nope, I'll look at Microsoft instead.
and calling apple bad designers because of being egotistical
Calm down, I can just see you turning red...
What I actually said was "They are a talented bunch, who create great products. Unfortunately because of their egos the are slow to admit the duds that drag down the company."
well....... you need to go back and use windows98 for about 10 minutes to get your perspective back to planet earth....
I agree 98 sucked badly. But Win2000 is light years better in terms of stability and much better in terms of useability, anybody in the Wintel world knows that.
LISTEN TOO ME JON: I want Apple to succeed. They have the perfect opportunity right now if they don't blow it with ego like they've done so many time in the past. People HATE Microsofts new licensing policy and the server worms and bugs. People still remember how much better Macs used to be and they WANT to support Apple.
Apple can do it IF THEY LISTEN. All they have to do is admit it when they go wrong and fix the problem. Apple cheerleaders are so supportive that when even 5% complain they should listen. If they did that Microsoft wouldn't have a chance. |
