"I'm not sure how people get into the mode where giving one's life to make a point is justifiable."

I am not a materialist and am quite convinced of my own eternal existence in one form or another. I probably have as much trouble imagining the limits you place on existence as you do imagining eternal life.

I'm gonna die and its no big deal. Just about any cause that is worthy, on just about any level, is a justifiable reason to offer one's life in sacrifice IMO .... because existence goes on and the outcome of such would be better than ducking out on a just cause.

Don't assume I support the "die well" premise. I don't. I consider suicide to be a type of murder. Looking for a way to go to your death is as bad as looking for an excuse to snuff your neighbor.

"Living well is the best revenge... dying well is, at most, a relief."

Living well is essential to going to ones death well...and there is every kind of test moment to moment all your life to convince you it aint...

This is interesting, I hope you will continue to compare and contrast our view points on this topic.
