A conscious act means that choices were considered and discarded and the path taken was the path taken. To suggest that one examined the paths and then took the path he did not want to take is a rather unique claim. The path you want to take and the path that is in your opinion morally correct are not always the same paths. You probably realize this but just to be sure "you" and "your" above are generic and do not refer to Solon or any other particular individual. Tim
