I'm tempted to say what I say all too frequently with you, Nadine. Just relax. You continue to think all this is a debating society, that the point is to score points. Not simply have a conversation.
I believe all political leaders have intensely mixed motives, all have terribly large egos or they wouldn't be punishing themselves they way they do, all believe that they do things for the noblest of reasons and know that they do other things to survive in the business. This is as true of Dems as it is of Reps. As individuals.
I prefer the policy outcomes produced by Dems but have been known to disagree, vehemently, with some of theirs--Clinton's decision to sign the welfare bill being the most recent, most prominent; and have been known to cheer a Republican politician or two, McCain on some occasions most recently.
If they are smart, and I think some of them are, the Bush folk are covering all the bases for their invasion of Iraq, including their political supporters, the economic consequences of going and not going (oil, cost of the invasions, etc.)
I do not, however, believe they have offered any serious and credible evidence that Iraq is an immediate threat. Thus, until they do, we should all remain free to try to figure out just what makes them do what they do.
And unless someone here is a fly on the wall, none of us really, finally knows. |
