Our situation, in most respects, is or may be more dire than Japan circa 1990. Further, there is a good deal of evidence that the FED is increasingly willing to interfere with market mechanisms. The moral hazard of bailouts, massive liquidity injections, and probably direct intervention via the PPT since 1987 are, imo, what got us to this unfortunate pass. Unless the FED stops interfering, "doing a Nikkei" seems likely to be a best-case scenario.
