Sorry for the typo...

My sentence should read "You can tell WHERE the big earthquake will strike next because the fault lines are easy enough to follow". That is, you can tell WHERE but not WHEN. So, no early warnings for the residents of Kobe, California, or Istanbul, I am afraid.

Please trust me on this. This is our scientific level at present. We are not able to forecast the timing of earthquakes. I certainly wish we could. And if you wish me to "tell that to the people of Kobe", I wouldn't mind doing just that.
