First, I am not in the oil business, but having lived in Houston for 20 years, the oil capitol of the world, you have a tendency to pick up on the biz simply by osmosis. Secondly, I recently purchased a few thousand AIPN shares for long term investment. Why, you ask? (You did ask why, right?). Well, a number of the good reasons have already been posted to this board. The key reasons for me are: Chevron is committed BIGTIME in Khazakstan, along with other "majors". Two, I was told by an experienced oil driller, that in the US when you drill down 1000-3000 feet and hit oil, you may have just a few feet of producing sands, say, 10 to 30 feet on average. In Khazakstan, when you drill down 1000 to 3000 feet and hit oil, the producing sands may be thousands of feet deep! Khazakstan is literally floating on a sea of oil equal to or greater than the Saudi fields. The problem has been getting the oil OUT of the country. Unfortunately, the most efficient, cheapest route is through IRAN. As I understand it, what has been happening is the oil companies have agreements with the Russian government to take the Khazakstan oil for internal use and swap it for northern Russian oil to be shipped to Europe via pipeline or out the northern Russian ports by sea tankers. What interested me is that AIPN was shrewed enough to involve the Khazakastan locals AND lock in some pipeline agreements to get the oil OUT, which was the key problem over there. As with any stock, Microsoft and Intel inluded, there is RISK. However, in this case I weighed the upside against the downside and am taking the gamble."

Also, Kenny, what is the value of oil in the ground if its not $17/barrel? Any ballpark figure?

Cheers...Faris
