Initial samples yield high diamond count from Diamonds North's Blue Ice

VANCOUVER, Sept. 18 /CNW/ - Diamonds North Resources Ltd. (DDN) announced today very high diamond counts from initial drill intercepts on the 100% owned Blue Ice, Victoria Island project. A total of 118 diamonds were recovered from a 6.49 kilogram sample of kimberlite, including numerous stones measuring over one millimeter in size.
The three largest stones have the following three-dimensional measurements.
2.19 mm x 1.51 mm x 0.85 mm
1.94 mm x 1.31 mm x 0.69 mm
1.82 mm x 1.71 mm x 0.89 mm
A total of seven diamonds exceed one millimeter in two dimensions while twelve in total exceed one millimeter in one dimension. A further eleven stones exceed 0.5 millimeters in two dimensions. By including the twenty diamonds with one dimension exceeding 0.5 millimeters, the total number of macrodiamonds is 43.
"This is an exciting result as it combines high diamond counts with a large number of one millimeter plus stones in such a small sample," stated Mark Kolebaba, Company President.
This first batch of results also included a 31.74 kilogram sample, which returned seventeen diamonds, four of which are macros with one dimension exceeding 0.5 millimeters.
Individual batch results will be received periodically and will be released after evaluation. All results are anticipated by year end.
Full square mesh sieving results and total carat weight of all three samples are given in the Table below.

All samples are derived from split BTW drill core measuring 4.15
centimeters (1.63 inches) diameter.
The above are partial results from the Sand Piper kimberlite. Samples BI- 02-02-38 and BI-02-03-02 are derived from two Sand Piper holes drilled 75 metres apart. The first hole, drilled at the northern fringe of the ellipsoid body, intersected 4.1 metres of kimberlite between 36.2 metres and 40.3 metres in a -60 degrees hole. The second hole, near the centre of the body, encountered 51.3 metres of kimberlite between 42.8 metres and 94.2 metres also drilled at a -60 degrees angle.
The above are the first diamond results from the company's 2002 drilling and sampling program. Good diamond results had been predicted by mantle derived kimberlite indicator minerals recovered from till samples in the area.
"The opportunity for substantial quantities of diamonds on the Blue Ice Project is now a real possibility. A very large linear kimberlite trend, named the Galaxy Structure, has now been identified. Galaxy is approximately 20 kilometres long and consists of a series of semi-continuous kimberlite dykes and pipe like bodies. This year's drilling has shown that the kimberlites are complex and, as yet, poorly understood, however, substantial volumes of kimberlites can be expected over this 20 kilometre trend. Our company believes the best targets are yet to be tested," Kolebaba said.
The Sand Piper kimberlite is situated near the southeast end of the Galaxy Structure in Nunavut. This year's Blue Ice drilling has tested only five of the numerous magnetic anomalies on the Nunavut side. Additionally, recent prospecting along the Galaxy Structure located outcroppings of kimberlite. Several hundred kilograms of kimberlite from three separate bodies have been collected and are being shipped to SGS Lakefield for diamond recovery.
Kimberlite samples were split and logged in secure facilities at the field camp. Sample bags were put into sealed, solid containers and shipped by air to SGS Lakefield Research in Ontario. SGS Lakefield's standard caustic fusion diamond recovery method was utilized for all samples. SGS Lakefield is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada to the ISO/IEC Guide 25 standard for specific registered tests.
