I just spent some time looking up "sense of humor" thinking that there must be some more precise word or expression to convey my meaning but couldn't find one. When I refer to having a sense of humor, what I have in mind is not being amusing or laughing easily but rather finding the humor in life's unfunny situations, laughing at one's self, not taking situations too seriously. A counterpoint to earnestness. The thesaurus mentions that meaning among the spins on "humor" but doesn't offer any alternative language.
