TC,

<< If you run XP and don't use Messenger there are a bunch of ways to hide or remove it. >>

Good link.

This fast and easy fix worked for me. I used a VB script provided by Doug Knox to work around the potential downside to removing Messenger when using Outlook Express (possible slow loading after Messenger removed) but it can be worked around manually or with this VB script:

dougknox.com

Of course Microsoft will sneak it back in with a critical update ...

... but that is life in Redmond City. <g>

I ran the script again after updating XP with SP1 just to be sure no new value was set.

Obviously since it is a VB script, script blocking has to be over ridden to run it if you have it turned on.

Everything seems to work fine (without Messenger).

OE opens just about instantaneously for me and my reaction after using the script was that it actually opened faster than when Messenger was enabled.
