In an e-mail Oct. 12, 2000, analyst Tim Mahon described a technique dubbed "The Agilent (A: news, chart, profile) Two-Step" in which the company maintains an official ranking on the company but "verbally everyone knows your position," the Associated Press reported. cbs.marketwatch.com
