This might be a good time to ask what we expect from a post-Saddam government. The most basic question being, of course, do we expect such a government to be primarily accountable to the Iraqis or to us?

I see lots of talk about installing a democratic government in Iraq. Do we assume that this government will grant us eternal basing rights? That it will have the will and ability to keep terrorists out? That it will allow us free rein to pursue terrorists in its territory? That it will grant special concessions to our oil companies? That it will adopt a capitalist, pro-business economic position? That we will be have veto power over Iraq's foreign policy? That Iraq will adopt a pro-Israel position?

Do we want a democracy, or a vassal state? Chances are we can't have both.

It's easy enough to say that the new government will have to do whatever we want or we will give it the bounce the same way we did to Saddam. People who think this should consider the implications of such a move.
