Karen,

Thanks for clarifying your positions. It really helps me understand where you are coming from.

To your points:

1) Pakistan since they harbor al Qaeda and their leader is bad news

In Pakistan the state and the leader are not harboring al Qaeda. Some locals are - big difference. As for the leadership - we can argue about necessary evils all day - but he is at least secular and trying to move Pakistan forward.

2) Zimbabwe?

What should we do? At some point if the regional power - South Africa - cannot clean up the situation we may need to act, but the situation they face is entirely self-inflicted.

What would I like done?

Well my proudest moments as an American (in my lifetime) were Kennedy and the Cuban Missle Crisis, Reagan's campaign against the Soviets, Bush 1 in Kuwait and Somalia and Clinton in the Balkans.

My worst moments were the Bay of Pigs, Vietnam, Panama, Rwanda and Clinton in Somalia.

In other words we may be closer than you think :-)

We should work with the SA Govt on a plan to fix the African mess and find other shining lights in other regions. However who is the shining light in South West Asia?

John
