TOrn is a malicious program not a virus. It is a program that you have to install and it has bad code in it.

If you install code according to Linux or Unix
canonical methods and compile it, this sort of thing
is very, very unlikely to happen.

Unix systems such as Linux cannot have viruses that
destroy the boot sector or root file system. Root
access has to be obtained by a person in order to do
that. A program that installs itself cannot do that.

Programs cannot self install under Unix or Linux. This
is the basic difference between Linux and Windows that
makes Linux MUCH MORE SECURE.

The above statement is dedicated to the memory of Jan Carlson, a Linux programmer and aficionado, who passed away last week.
