heatsinker2: One of the mysteries for me is the fab for Barton. &#133 I just can't imagine a new fab starting up with an unproven SOI process. AMD wouldn't do that, would they?

Why not? AMD seems to like starting a new, unproven core on a new, unproven process. SOI and Hammer, .18µm and K7 (well, at least there were some .25µm K7s).

IMHO, Intel takes a much more reasonable approach. At least these past couple of transitions, they have ramped their old core on their new process (and typically sold it as a mobile product, to maximize ASPs).

AMD did claim to have produced some .18µm Cu K6s, but only in very limited amounts. Spewing out a ton of them for mobiles would have made much more sense IMO.

I sincerely hope that AMD have decided to also manufacture Barton's at their Dresden fab, but their history is certainly no indicator that they will&#133
