Mr Randy Turner reports
A budget and work program for the Camsell Lake project area has been
approved. The project area comprises 277,000 acres, 140 miles northeast of
Yellowknife, NWT. The Camsell Lake JV partners are Winspear (57.3%), the
operator and Aber Resources (42.7%).
A budget of approximately $1.6 million has been approved by the partners
for the period to June 30 1997. The work program will comprise both
detailed airborne and ground geophysics as well as 15,000ft of diamond
drilling. Winter weather permitting, drilling is anticipated to begin
towards mid-February. The field crew has mobilized to the property to
prepare the camp and begin the geophysical surveys.
The work program will be focused in the Snap Lake area where significant
concentrations of pyrope and chromite indicator minerals were located
during the past summer's exploration program. Previously reported results
from this area include: five separate locations of kimberlite boulders and
fragments, 26 diamonds recovered from nine till sample sites; 143 diamonds
(including 33 macros) recovered from two kimberlite boulders totalling
34.05kg; eight diamonds recovered from a 60kg sample of green clay
material; and the largest diamond recovered to date is from a boulder
sample and is 1.99mm (long axis).
Evaluation of the exploration data presently available suggests that the
known distribution of indicator minerals and diamonds in the Snap Lake area
has originated from more than one kimberlite source. The present program is
designed to test high-priority targets in this area.
