I would sure like to see a buyer...

Apple and Novell are not fairing as well against Microsoft. In fact Microsoft is kicking @ss all over the place. Nothing like a billion dollar quarter to warm the hearts of the MSFT Shareholder and faithful.

So where do we go from here? Lets look back a bit at another MSFT competitor that was not fairing as well as they might have been against the "Folks" in Redmond... Lotus Development. Here was a company with an aging product line and low market share Office Suite - Lotus SmartSuite. They chanted "Our Technology is better" until they were blue in the face but the sales never came. They practically gave away the suite and still no luck. Sales lagged the stock sagged.

They did have a product that represented the "Next Generation" software - a message enabled development environment called Lotus Notes. This product showed great potential to improve office productivity. It was a product worth buying Lotus to get (As long as Ozzie stayed until release 5.0) The deal was made and the stock rose 100 percent from 30 to 60 that Monday. Lotus shareholders rejoiced! IBM shareholders would rejoice as well. It has been a better "Fit" then most ever could have imagined.

So what about Novell? What "Next Generation" product do they hold? Is it NDS? Maybe IntraNetware? Groupwise perhaps? Who has the size and vision to put the assets intellectual and physical at Novell to work? Not only to continue to work on Novells products but to enhance the partners products as well with some of the Novell technology and experience. They have to enjoy a very large installed base. Very Large and very growth oriented. Someone who works with Novell today when working with customers.... Someone who wants access to the Netware installed base.

Who come to mind? Not the usuals like Oracle or Sun. They got their hands full already and a Novell merger would be a major distraction. How about SAP? You know the "Other" Microsoft from Germany. SAP buys Novell to get Groupwise and further enhance sales in large Netware installations. They can easily afford Novell. The question is would they want it? Just a thought....

I am hoping to see a buyer the more I see (or rather don't see) from Novell management.
