Jim, I think you are usually really funny, but I don't really appreciate my posts being edited so NORMAL people can understand them. Who is NORMAL, anyway? That is really subjective. I guess you may be attempting irony again, but I have enough going on in my 3D life that I don't have the time to rip people's posts apart word by word or make fun of someone here for weeks on end. If you want to criticize me or what I said, I would appreciate your just RESPONDING to my posts instead.
Do environmentalists threaten you or something? Their position is just as valid as yours, and because of freedom of speech they have as much right to post their opinions here as you do. Was I posting to you? No!!!
I also think that everyone should have the freedom to state their own religious beliefs without being challenged as to whether they have properly identified themselves (in YOUR opinion). I was obviously expressing my OPINIONS in that post to Lyle, based on my religious beliefs, just as all of you are free to post your opinions and state your own religious beliefs. I was not castigating your religious beliefs, and would appreciate the same level of respect.
The only time I think discussions of differing religious OR political beliefs become totally inappropriate here is when the poster is attacking below the belt--an example I noticed recently is that Father Terrence insinuated that someone who did not agree with him had Nazi tendencies. I found that objectionable, and the person he was posting to asked him to not post to him again, so I said something.
I was not trying to convert you or anyone else to paganism, just explaining where I was coming from in a post to someone else. You are welcome to go on and on and on about your wife's fur coats and animal blood dripping down your chin until you get tired of talking about it, just like I am free to discuss environmentalism!
I think the discussion here recently about the planet and the future has been interesting, and I have learned some things. I hope others who are interested in these subjects have, also. If you don't find these things interesting, just click "Next" when you see my name, because I might be talking about them sometimes.
From what you said it doesn't sound like you know anything about the disappearance of krill from the food chain, or how the sea off Newfoundland is so desolate of fish that there is fear they won't return at all (after a ban on fishing for five years), or how Lake Tahoe is turning green as the result of fertilizer runoff, or about the 1,600 dairy farms in the Central Valley that pollute as much as a city of 21 million people, poisoning the ground water and killing fish in the Delta, or how much space debris IS orbiting out there, or anything about companies like Shaman Therapeutics or the medicines we do get from the earth, or that the great apes have advanced reasoning skills and may be acting RATIONALLY in much that they do, but I don't really feel that it is my job to spend this evening educating you. It is your right not to want to know any of these things. I just don't see why some people who find ignorance of environmental issues amusing are so critical of people who are concerned.
I will write about those things when and if I feel like it, just as everyone here has the freedom of speech to write about killing animals and wearing furs if you wish to do that. I don't see why we cannot all write how we feel, without ridiculing each other. Sometimes we are being playful with each other, but sometimes it goes beyond that, and your post felt mean-spirited to me.
Anyway, I think it is a pretty low-class sport to just rip someone's posts apart, line by line, for your own amusement. |
