Remember gulf war and early 1990 and even Oracle.. Really well..

One very big difference now with techs/stocks now and at that time.. There were company specific problems, such as Oracle (grew too fast, promised too much, arrogant too boot and Oracle version 6 was a dog.. No two ways about it) But here is the rub as well.. If I had kept my shares instead of taking profit when version 7 started to get good reviews, today that stake would be worth at least 10-15 time more then where I sold it..

Other stocks, depending on the story did behave much better.. We are talking about a period where PC started to take off.. A lot of niche companies came out with interesting products went along..

The difference today is, capital spending has dried up now.. No visibility, no projection.. the problem is across the board.. all technology/IT sectors as far as I can tell.. There is excess capacity in virtually every sector.. Consumers are stretched.. A lot of high priced jobs, in technology, financial sectors have disappeared.. Consumers, who have jobs but have taken a bath in stock market may be feeling not too badly simply because if they own a house, that has gone up in low interest environment but there are dark clouds on the horizon there as well..

The world is a different place today for sure.. FWIW..
