This is a prayer request for my husband. I have not previously shared much of what is going on with him. But today was pretty scary. Going to vent a little here, and give you all the details. Please pray for him, for those of you that don't know, his name is Mike...
My day did not go quite as planned.
I did not get to go with my older kids to a festival, an outing that had been planned for months. Instead, I needed to take Mike to the doctor's. It was a long day. The doctor debated what to do with Mike, considered admitting him to the hospital. But then did and EKG, which was normal. So the doctor felt a little bit better and felt he could not justify admitting Mike. Instead sent us to the hospital for a chest x-ray, to rule out heart attack, and also did blood work. Mike went from his average normal weigh a week ago of 190, to 203lbs today. The doctor gave us strict instructions for the weekend, as to how to manage this crisis, including instruction on when we forgo, going it on our own, and should take him to the hospital. The doctor is very concerned about the large weight gain in such a short period of time. The doctor does not really know, what made Mike's health get to such a crisis state, in so little time . The doctor thinks that maybe Mike's kidneys have taken a turn for the worse. The doctor put him on 160 mg. of a diuretic, with the hopes of him losing 3-4 lbs today, then another 2lbs on Sat, and another 2lbs on Sunday. We go back in Monday morning to the doctors. It was a tough call on the diuretic, because the diuretic makes one expel fluid, but drinking fluids brings the blood sugar down, but causes this water retention, so it is a catch 22 situation. Again he is doing much better now, his blood sugar is in a more normal range, and the diuretics have kicked in. Mike is a type 1 diabetic, since he was a teenager.
My kids are not back from the festival yet, they went on with the rest of the group. I really missed being with them today, as I was so looking forward to it. Now I will be happy once they are safely back home.
