Now the FBI was stopped in searching for one of the 9/11 bombers by their lawyers.
These guys are civil servants. If they violate the law, they will be drawn, quartered, crucified, hung up to dry, not to mention being fired and losing their benefits. The jobs don't pay all that well considering how much it costs to live here but job security and the benefits do compensate.
Try losing your job in Washington, D.C., and being left with a wife, kids, and a hefty mortgage. I can't blame them for being cautious. The spook culture has been emasculated and has become gutless.
If you want to blame somebody, blame a left-wing Congress that saw our own FBI and CIA as the root of all evil and hamstrung them.
Just remember what happened to Ollie North, Cap Weinberger and almost happened to Reagan, over something that was legal but caused the hard-left Dems in Congress to go apeshit once they learned about it (overthrowing the Communist Sandinista government in Nicaragua and installing democracy in the person of Violeta Chammorro.) Not all the Dems were hard left but the rest smelled a political victory. It cost Bush I the election and led to four years of Clinton.
