Those were good points and counterpoints.

It may seem that we are belaboring an issue too much, but OTOH I think we are ferreting out some useful POVs on the subject of aliases and real folk.

One thing that is clear is that people do want to talk about (and hopefully think about) where a venue like SI fits into our real lives. Indeed, I think an interesting aspect of the discussion has been the emotional button that the discussion has pushed in some. Some have shown quite a bit of anger, close to fury, at having the substantiality of their SI identity brought into question.

I think that is pretty interesting in its own right. It tells me that there are some who feel heavily vested in the ... er, what? Image? Character definition? well, whatever ... that they have nurtured on SI. They become very upset when the reality of that "what" is challenged.

Anyway, whenever buttons are pushed, the topic takes on a life of its own.
