If you shoot a person in self-defense you have the law on your side. If you shoot a person in cold blood you are a killer. Either way, the other person is dead -- same outcome for the dead guy. But for the shooter, you either have the support of the community because you acted in a legitimate manner or you are an outlaw. That is the situation we are in. Are we acting in self-defense or are we cold-blooded killers. If we are merely killers, we lose our legitimacy and the world becomes a more dangerous and lawless place. If we achieve legitimacy for our actions, then we strengthen our leadership role and make the world a better place.
