I'd have to say I don't have enough information to offer a definitive opinion. My initial reaction is that the premise of the article is wrong.

But he wasn't always a dove.

There is no reason to think it doveish or pasifist to oppose this adventure in Iraq. This is a war against the wrong enemy for the wrong reasons. There is no indication that Ritter opposes all war, just this one. The mistaken premise invalidates the conclusions of the article.
