Yes, terrorism is too broad a term because it refers to a technique and not an ideology. Islamism or Militant Islam is a more accurate term. And Islamists may have local as well as ideological motives. The world is complicated. But nuanced explanations tend to produce conference papers, not action. And sometimes action is badly needed.
