a spiritual component to being in the wild

For the past quarter century I have been essentially a city dweller. I travel to the National Parks as frequently as I can and I recognize the significance of these special places. Yes, I feel a spiritual understanding even as I analyse my own feelings in such spots.

I find it interesting that most societies pick special spots where the people experience a sense of greatness, it could be an ancient site, a beautiful site, or ground zero. I speculate that there is survival value in common congregation locations, perhaps a place to meet mates from related but distant communities. Location defines political boundaries far more than language, custom, or genetics and mental rewards for identifying location would provide advantage.
