Would it be the end of our species' evolution?

I hear this question a lot! Usually it's in the context of "if people with birth defects are artificially kept alive will that be the end of human evolution". The short answer is NO, evolution is a fundamental characteristic of life and the only way to stop it is through extinction.

The second implied subject is whether cyborgs, human-machine combinations, are possible or likely. This is pure speculation but I think so. Technology has advanced at an accelerated pace. Advancements in eyes for the blind and ears for the deaf and insulin pumps for the diabetics will naturally lead to prosthesis for the mind, perhaps a dopamine or serotinin pump. These will naturally be used and abused for purposes outside their original medical scope.

It's even more speculative to try and guess what current human characteristics would thrive in such an environment. Perhaps a greater resistance to the infection of injected artifacts, or perhaps a weaker immune system which doesn't reject the new technology. Most likely it would be the same characteristics that enable the person to afford the technology.
