Hi, Del!!! I always learn something from your posts--thanks for being so detailed. The air conditioning in my ancient (1977) Volvo station wagon has not worked since I got it two years ago. I guess you are saying that the freon probably ate through the hose!! Yes?? (I am not a mechanically inclined person.) AND that if I replace the hose, right now I could fill the air conditioner with freon, but that soon it will be illegal??
I WOULD love to live in an adobe house. I am a barefoot kind of person, tripping on flowing gauzy skirts and dripping with turquoise jewelry, as we all know, ad nauseum, and so I find adobe very romantic and old-fashioned. I am surprised to discover that it is not a good insulator. I thought that the adobe soaked up the sun's heat and kept the temperatures bearable during the day, and then released the heat at night, keeping the house warm. Am I totally off base here?
And what building materials are you using for the walls? What do you think of the houses that are being built in the earth, a side projecting out with windows but mostly bound by the earth? In fact, I think they are called BOUNDED houses, but I could be mistaken. They are the latest thing in the Napa Valley, according to the society pages here.
I am sure that you will be able to build a house that runs totally off the sun's energy, if you are determined, and it sounds like you are. Has anyone else tried this and been successful anywhere on earth? I would agree that it needs to be done, and find all of this very exciting! |
