Oh, now you're going to tell me which of Webster's meanings I intended when I used the word? Sorry, GST, but that's not how it works. I'll choose which of the accepted meanings apply to my own words.

Bush is dealing with the problem of Saddam as a threat by establishing a negotiating position that says "we are ready and willing to remove him if that's what it takes to render him harmless." Successful handling of the matter requires that this remain an option until it is clear that it is not necessary. But until it happens, it is only an option, as Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Powell have made abundantly clear.
