"I don't know that he was really referring to your example." Oh, yes he definitely was. I think something is missing in your explanation. In the description of the character that I described, I included what I also consider a character flaw. (When disputes erupted on the playing field this guy was known to get into scuffles.) I did not describe something that was criminal or even that would be considered unusual in that setting. It is quite common in some sports especially in circumstances where there isn't adequate reffing. You confidently determined that even though every other aspect of his life appeared kind, loving, decent, and admirable; "Reality" is that he is a restrained ass of a person. This not only contradicts much of the discussion that says we can't "really" know a person by taking a snap shot of what they appear to be like in one venue, but it comes up inadequate in the explanation. I know it is pretty hard to push you to the point of frustration on these threads but the nature of competition is to challenge one another at the absolute limits of ones ability. When you add into that disputes over how things are going most people who compete find the struggle a bit much, and tempers will flare if there isn't a convenient way to resolve things...that is why referies were invented. We saw the character described in several scenarios none of which defined a mafioso type personality. The social circles of each of those scenarios should have had ample opportunity to witness character flaws that add up to "a restrained ass." You discounted any possibility of that. You asserted that even though he exhibited an admirable and decent presentation in all aspects of life over time and as described by people who knew him at some level beyond first impression...he was a "restrained ass." You discounted any possibility that there could have been some aspect of his scuffling encounter that was out of character even though this was the only representation of any aspect of this behavior. In fact you insisted that it couldn't be the case. This seems uncharacteristic of you. So I was just wondering what it was about the descriptions that drove you to this extreme of judgement.
