"vile personality traits are always there, they are often suppressed for the moment. No more. No less." I agreed with that. Do you disagree?"

Well, I would agree with people who say, "there but for the sake of God go I" when refering to someone else's unfortunate circumstances. That would include unfortunate circumstances that drive people to become criminal. I like to think that if I were ever pushed to a choice I would sacrifice worldly things rather than become something I don't like.

Personality flaws can develop when someone starts down a path somewhat innocently and with no sense of self discipline until they find themselves in over their head with criminal or deviant behavior. I would say the potential is always there for all of us. That doesn't mean all of us are vile restrained asses. I would also say that some people find themselves into stuff over their heads and behaving outside of what is their optimal character. The flaw in this case would be lack of self discipline more than whatever is being presented behaviorally. People can get ahold of themselves and self correct to the point that inapropriate or despicable behavior is done away with as they change their circumstances and not as a matter of restraint.

I believe that in some cases people even find themselves so carried away with circumstances that they do things that they themselves or society can never resolve. I suspect some people who have committed heinous crimes even fit into this catagory, where as others are driven to it by their vile characters. I don't see that we have a sound method of determining which is which or to reconcile heinous crime in any event. (new tangent)
