Election times : Gore in Schroeder's shoes. Gore : "America cannot simultaneously and successfully fight Irak (still faithful armies) and a few thousands enraged Muslims. The latter dispersed and hiding around the world with not much backup, if any.
How about Japan without Germany, Mister Gore ?
Both countries had built huge military empires, they were bright, hard working, sophisticated, motivated, trained, ready to sacrifice, had millions of slaves at work for them; and still they still were defeated on an equal timetable base : first comes, both served!
While both the axis powers were able to expand their domain even more in the first years of WWIIw, did we see any of the like from AQ, Irak or others ?
No, we saw a single shoebomber too dumb to go to the jet's toilet to light up. A synagogue in Djerba (Tunis) truck exploding, half a dozen victims of anthrax (if AQ) and some casualties in Pakistan where profiling is impossible, and that's about it... in four hundred days.
Kissinger said twenty eight years ago that the US was to be able to wage two and a half wars at the same time and win them. And since then, the necessary budgets were not cut short. Not did the spirit, and now the motivation. The only things that were cut however, were the CIA balls... (No Joke on Clinton's here, please, it would be very bad taste and innapropriate)
Now this is not to say that America and others will not take very heavy casualties at home during the coming wars. It may happen, we all know it by now. But not dealing with Saddam may ne even more risky on a medium term, because of AQ and/or Saddam and co.
My secondary point is that if America wins these battles in the next two to six years, Gore political future is toasted and that must hurt. |
