Total housing is 40.873% of CPI.
Of that portion, Shelter is the primary subset, and breaks out as follows:
Shelter--31.522% (comprised of Rent of primary residence, 6.421%, lodging away from home, 2.702%, owner's equivalent of primary residence, 22.046%, and Tenants' and household insurance, 0.353%)
The other items that make up Total housing are Fuels and utilities and Household Furnishings.
Now, on how accurate those numbers are, well, that's a different story. The one thing I can guarantee is that BLS numbers are inaccurate. My original point was only to dispute Jim's statement that housing costs were not included in the CPI because the government considers housing an asset. |
