| Raytheon Systems Co., St. Petersburg, Fla., is being awarded a $39,977,703 firm-fixed-price, multiple award contract for component advanced development phase of the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS). The MUOS will be an unprotected narrowband satellite communication system that will support a worldwide, multi-service population of mobile and fixed-site terminal users. The MUOS will ultimately replace the current UHF Follow-On (UFO) narrowband SATCOM system; however, the MUOS will continue to provide interoperability with the legacy terminals. The MUOS will consist of a space segment and multiple ground segments. These segments will provide the communications medium and services for all users. User terminals will be provided by the individual services. The MUOS space segment will consist of a constellation of geosynchronous satellites and the ground segments will include ground stations providing command and control of the satellites, the user network and the ground-based interfaces that provide access to terrestrial telecommunication networks and the Global Information Grid. Raytheon Systems Company is teamed with Space Systems Loral of Palo Alto, Calif., for this award. This contract includes an unpriced, undefinitized engineering services contract line item option, which if exercised, would increase the cumulative value of this contract. Work will be performed in St. Petersburg, Fla. (88 percent) and Palo Alto, Calif. (12 percent), and is expected to be completed by November 2003. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
