John, if you read the reports of some of the antiSemitic incidence on campus that Campus Watch is collecting, they go far beyond "criticisms of Sharon's policies." That's a little like saying that the goals of SDS was "criticism of US foreign policy."
So far mostly what they are documenting is antisemitic epithets, defacing pro-Israeli posters, tearing down pro-Israeli flyers, swastika grafitti, shouting down pro-Israeli speakers, and at least one beating of a Jewish boy by two anti-Israeli boys, but it is troubling.
The most troubling are actions taken in class by biased teachers. I became a master of ass-kissing and flying under radar while I was a student. "Things you are not allowed to say" have shifted back and forth. When I was in high school, it wasn't ok to be in favor of integration. When I started college in 1970, it wasn't ok to be a feminist or a commie sympathizer. I had to sign a loyalty oath stating that I was not a communist in order to get a work-study job. Now the shoe has shifted to the other foot.

"Witch hunt" is funny. Meant to invoke the unlamented shade of McCarthy, of course.
If I were Jewish, I'd be worried about pograms and Kristal Nacht, myself.
See, you invoke McCarthy, I'll invoke Hitler. |
