I don't think I agree with you, but maybe we can find common ground.

Summers says he is disturbed by the double standard you have heard Nadine and other discuss before here.

Summers says that nobody is asking Harvard to divest from the products of any country other than Israel. He notes that many other countries have egregious civil rights violations, and argues that some have far more egregious civil rights violations than Israel.

Why are they not asking Harvard to divest from those countries?

Summers suggests that the reason may be bias against Israel.

If so, what motivates that bias?

Why ignore the civil rights violations of all other nations, and focus in like a laser beam on only one country?

And, he observes, it's very hard not to get spooked by the other people marching alongside, the ones carrying the kooky signs making whacko arguments.

What is the principle involved here? If we should support human rights, why not human rights for all mankind?

Why not, for example, the civil rights of Israelis who are murdered by Palestinians?

What is the moral verity of the argument that the First World is always the victimizer and the Third World is always the victim?

Isn't it a variation of the Litany of Self-Loathing?

BTW, I hope you remember that Sharon has me at my wit's end, so I am not apologizing for Sharon.
