Bell Atlantic Selects ADTRAN as a Key HDSL Supplier

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 1997--ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN) announced today that Bell Atlantic Network
Services, Inc. has selected ADTRAN as a key supplier of High-bit rate Digital Subscriber Line (HDSL) products.

ADTRAN's HDSL system enhances the existing telco infrastructure by transforming copper wires into high-speed digital transmission media
comparable to that of fiber optics. HDSL over copper also is more cost-effective and efficient than fiber. HDSL is the repeaterless delivery of T1
service.

ADTRAN has addressed the Telcos' needs to safely eliminate powering at the customer premises by developing an HDSL system that
provides span powering for the complete extended range HDSL circuit. ADTRAN's Low Voltage HDSL system uses negative 130 volts DC,
which is within the Bellcore Class A3 voltage specifications. This system will provide Bell Atlantic with a reliable, safe and simple method for
delivering HDSL to its customers. The ADTRAN Low Voltage HDSL system includes the HTU-C central office unit, the HTU-R remote unit
and the HRE mid-span range extension unit.

``ADTRAN is pleased with Bell Atlantic's selection of our HDSL system. We are confident that customer demands can be met in a safer,
simpler and more economical means with these products,'' said ADTRAN Vice President of Telco Marketing Tom Stanton.

ADTRAN was established in 1985 to design, develop and manufacture advanced transmission products for high-speed digital
communications. ADTRAN is a primary provider of DDS, ISDN and HDSL digital loop products to Regional Bell Operating Companies and
many well known OEMs. The broad selection of customer premises products offered by ADTRAN includes a complete line of DSU/CSUs, a
variety of ISDN extension and network terminating products and flexible T1 multiplexers. For more information regarding ADTRAN and its
products, call 1-800-326-3700, fax (205) 963-8116, or E-Mail: info@adtran.com. ADTRAN can be found on the Internet at adtran.com
