Interesting perspective Ira, I'm certainly not an expert in these matters but your points seem quite logical. MMs love making money off the spreads, just wish I could too! Your last line "This is at best a short term help if the market is intent on moving down. It can be a short term halt that then draws in additional interest, if the weakness is truly short term." speaks to my main interest which is determining whether or not a company like DELL is a good short. Although they are indeed taking market share from others, they've been playing with puts for quite a while and the sector is so weak and outlook so bleak that I tend to think this is not a short term problem. But perhaps there are easier shorts to bop right now - I'd be interested in your opinion.
