Parenthetically, my younger son is being encouraged to play football, but I think he would be excellent at rugby.

As an ex-rugby player, I'm fond of the saying, "Football is a gentleman's game played by ruffians and rugby is a ruffian's game played by gentlemen!" Of course, they mean soccer, not football North American style.

Having played many years of rugby and one year of high school football all I can say that I spent more time injured in the one year of football than I did in 15 years of rugby. "Put your head in his numbers" is about all I recall from football. I don't remember that much about rugby, but that was the beer!
